Today, July 20th in a special session called by Governor Crist:

The House voted "YES"...to go home after arriving at the Capitol.

No constitutional amendment banning oil drilling in State waters will be on the ballot allowing voters to have their say forever banning oil drilling in State waters.

"The Republican leadership in the House of Representatives just killed the attempt to place constitutional ban on oil drilling on ballot.  We have Republican leadership and local elected officials who represent Big Oil and will continue to champion the cause of Big Oil to the detriment of our State."

It has now been over one month since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig catastrophe began.  We have been left with profound uncertainty as to the future of our coastal life, the health of the Gulf of Mexico and the struggle to maintain our way of life and economy.  Times like these allow our leaders to step up and seize the moment and lead us through the process of solving the problem and using the moment in time to reach to bold new and better places for our Country.  Regrettably, there has been very little such leadership as this event has unfolded.

I am left to ponder the fact that under Florida Statute § 403.161, anybody who would deposit their automobile’s motor oil in the Gulf of Mexico would be subject to penalties as serious as a third degree felony and fines of more than $50,000.00 and the possibility of imprisonment for five years, or both.

Here we have a foreign corporation who has already poisoned 20% of the Gulf of Mexico and one is left to wonder whether those who allowed the unconscionable lease rights at this depth without having adequate safeguards in place and whether those representatives of the company who gambled with our future, our economy and our natural resource, will be held criminally responsible for their dereliction of duty and malfeasance. Read more>>

Gov. Crist vetoes SB6 which was opposed by so many teachers, administrators and parents.

Thank you Governor for listening to your State.

Senate Bill 6 (The Teacher / Public School Attack Bill) passes the House 64 to 55.  My opponent, Marti Coley, defies District 7 teachers and administrators and votes “yes” in favor of the Bill.  The Bill now goes to Governor Crist next to sign into law or to veto.

“I am profoundly disappointed that the majority of our elected officials have decided to undermine our public schools and create a hostile work environment for our teachers.  I am particularly disappointed that our District 7 Representative, Marti Coley, a former teacher, voted in favor of this Bill.”

Candidate, District 7 House of Representatives

HOUSTON - An oil pipeline operated by ChevronPipe Line Co leaked at least 18,000 gallons of crude oil into the Delta National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana, the U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday.

No wildlife covered with, or affected by oil had been found Tuesday afternoon, but the exact environmental impact remained undetermined, a spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife said.

The leak, discovered by a contractor shortly after midnight, discharged into a canal 10 miles southeast of Venice, and investigative and cleanup teams were on scene, the Coast Guard said in a news release.

A barge working for Exxon Mobil Corp was driving long pipes called "spuds" to anchor the barge in place, and one may have hit the pipeline operated by Chevron, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

Chevron shut down the affected section of pipeline and started efforts to minimize environmental impact, said a news release issued by Chevron, the Coast Guard and state of Louisiana. Read more>>

Our current District 7 Representative and my opponent, Marti Coley, voted last week in favor of Senate Bill 6 (attack on public education bill) out of a House policy committee.  The House is poised to vote on its version of SB 6 in the form of House Bill 7189.  You must see the youtube piece in the link below which was made by three parents and succinctly reviews the destructive intent of SB6 and its ramifications.
